One of the determining factors to how much weight you will lose after your pregnancy is just how much additional weight you gained while you were pregnant but there are things to consider as well.

Most women will lose anywhere from 10-14 pounds within the first 2 weeks of delivery which may be attributed primarily to the loss of excess fluid in the body, the baby's weight, the placenta and amniotic fluid.

As the uterus shrinks back down to its normal size and your hormone levels continue to fall, you will lose weight as most women gain at least 7 pounds of fat during pregnancy. The reason for this fat is because it is an energy source used to help feed the baby but weight loss after pregnancy will depend on the mother's diet, physical lifestyle and genetic makeup.

Whatever you may feel, it did take almost nine months to gain the extra weight so do not expect miracles when it comes to losing it quickly even though the press is always showing shots of celebrity mothers who have lost it within a few short months. Nature decides how quickly each person will lose the weight and some mothers hang on to the last few pounds until they have finished breastfeeding.

With today's nutritional information readily available, more is know about what we should and shouldn't eat so combined with regular exercise it is possible to lose the weight you gained.

Many women in fact will be back to their original weight within a year of having their child providing they follow good dietary and exercise regimes. Unfortunately, it is those women that lose it within the first three months that give false expectations to other mothers.

What it is not taken into account is the number of physical changes that happen to woman once she has given birth and will alter some things she may have taken for granted. This is one good reason if you want to achieve weight loss after pregnancy then you must take things steady and not try to rush, especially if you wish to stay healthy.

In addition, dieting right after pregnancy for a new mother who is breast feeding should probably be put on hold as a breast feeding new mother needs a significant amount of energy for the continual 24 hour care of her baby that may last for a year.

A feeding mother may take upwards of six months for the hormone and metabolic rate to return to normal but for some people the changes they experience end up being permanent.

The initial weight loss after birth of around fourteen pounds will just about put a dent in the total of up to thirty five pounds in weight that was gained during the pregnancy.

This weight loss will happen immediately which still leaves the other 12-21 pounds, and they can be safely and easily lost over the next 6-8 months by taking it slow and steady, without risk.
