It may be taxing to talk about yoga in this century. The real meaning of this ancient concept has been inundated by the quick-fix approach mentality of the modern day globalization. The whole philosophy of yoga has been reduced to a simpler concept to help people understand the concept better. The intricate nature of its full contents might cause some confusion among people from the western world. It is disturbing to see a lot of people obtaining shallow understanding of this complex subject and yet remaining unhesitant to talk about it from an expert's point of view. The West tends to focus on the physical aspects of yoga. The need for simplification has diminished the wisdom of true yoga into a superficial speech that fails to recognize the real purpose and meaning of this wonderful philosophy.
This unique practice is actually a religious journey, a representation of one of the Hindu schools of thought. Yoga as a part of India's diverse culture and philosophy is actually a spiritual experience that includes some complicated physical moves. The westerner's viewpoint that yoga is a physical activity is very wrong and distorted. The strange symbols related to the yoga practice have created some awareness among the westerners that there is more to yoga than the physical aspects, but they are often misunderstood. Ironically, it is practiced as a popular form of sports. Additionally, people who desire inner tranquility would often find this practice to be beneficial.
The so called experts in this industry have been quick to use these promises and people have been fascinated. The numerous amount of fatal errors found in the practice of yoga outside of India shows that this art has been widely misunderstood at large. Closer observation reveals that the unique culture of each race has dramatically influenced the way yoga is practiced. It appears that the west is not prepared to pay the price necessary to gain a deeper understanding of this philosophy. While meditation is an integral part of the practice, the westerners with their ever busy lifestyles certainly do not posses time for such luxuries. The principle of Hinduism that governs the yoga practice does not recognize the greed for power and wealth, which is obviously a value of prime importance in the western world. Therefore, it is believed that the westerners will never reach the pinnacles of true wisdom dictated by the parameters of the Hindu religion. One needs to possess both time and patience to fully reap the rewards of a successful meditative session. Obsessed with the need to accumulate as much wealth as possible, therefore the thought of having to spend time in such sessions would be considered a mere waste of precious time.
Yoga has been accepted as a fashion. It is easy to practice yoga anywhere you want; there are plenty of materials for you to select from that are promoting this activity as a form of sports. Fans of famous people who later become fake gurus are adamant about supporting their idol and his practice. This crooked philosophy has been widely spread by its loyal followers. |
