The regular use of anti-aging skin care products is becoming normal these days; as our lifespan increases so does our desire to remain active as well as look young and healthy. The skin care industry uses beauty products that increase the synthesis of the protein collagen, the main protein in skin which becomes less elastic as we age; with around a quarter of our skin protein being collagen, the importance of this substance has not gone unnoticed. Collagen is related to other anti-aging substances found in the body and other substances; these are known as antioxidants which remove toxins from the body.

You probably know many anti-oxidants by name, including vitamin C, the use of which is still, even now, hotly debated in the science and nutrition community. Skin care treatments that are based on vitamin C, pose the problem of becoming oxidized themselves as they come into contact with air during their usage.

To get around this some skin care treatments are based on derivatives of vitamin C, which are more stable and less expensive. These new anti-oxidant products are not quite as good as vitamin C although other naturally occurring compounds, vitamin E and lipoic acid can achieve the same effect.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant and component of human blood whose purpose is to help increase the body's immune system; it has been linked to resistance to a number of conditions including certain types of cancer. Another of these is lipoic acid which is found in every cell of our body to help generate energy for us to live; it can also help reduce the aging process which affects the skin.

The use of plants has not been overlooked either with many types able to provide essences called phytochemicals which have proved successful in anti-aging skin care products. Phytochemicals prevent occurrence of certain types of cancer; examples of these are:

Cancer of the Prostate
Cancer that attacks the Breast
Cancer of the Bowel

These are all on the increase around the world.

Other vitamins from the B group are also used in anti-aging skin care like vitamins B5, B6 and B12 for example. The field of anti-aging skin care products is vast and needs a great deal more research. A great deal about the aging process has already been learned and the products available today are already far more advanced than ten years ago; there is still a long way to go however, before methods that successfully reduce the effects of age are commonplace.

With the research that is now taking place, many people are confident that in time, more effective, cheaper anti-aging skin care products will be discovered. It may be time to learn that not every synthetic anti-aging product is going to work; it is doubtful if science can replace natural skin care remedies. Natural methods are known, but few people actually follow them; what proportion of the population actually eats healthily, takes plenty of exercise, drink sufficient water and obtain restful and regular sleep?

This site contains all sorts of information about Anti-Aging and Anti-Aging Skin Care Products that will help take the years off.
