One of the most successful areas of health and beauty is Anti-aging skin care products. there is nothing wrong with wanting to continue looking young as you get older, in fact it is quite a healthy aim. This is achieved in beauty products by promoting the growth of connective tissue using the protein collagen which is the most abundant in the skin of all animals; almost 25 percent of the protein in skin is actually collagen. Collagen is related to other natural substances which help to slow down the aging process; these are known as antioxidants which remove toxins from the body.
One of the best known anti-oxidants is vitamin C and despite continual research, no-one body involved can decide just exactly how much our body should consume on a daily basis. The problem with vitamin C derived skin care treatments is they can become oxidized when exposed to the atmosphere, often even before they are used.
To get around this some skin care treatments are based on derivatives of vitamin C, which are more stable and less expensive. Although these products are good, they cannot actually compare with vitamin C but fortunately vitamin E and alpha-lipoic acid are also anti-oxidants so can be used to gain the same effect.
The body uses vitamin E as an antioxidant and to increase the natural defense we have against sickness; it has many functions including inhibiting the formation of cancer cells. Another of these is lipoic acid which is found in every cell of our body to help generate energy for us to live; an additional function is to repair skin damage caused by the normal aging process.
Phytochemicals form the other category of anti-aging skin care products which are special chemicals that are extracted from plants with a variety of that are used in skin care today. Phytochemicals prevent occurrence of certain types of cancer; for example:
Cancer that attacks the Prostate
Cancer of the Breast
Cancer of the Bowel
These types of cancer are also becoming some of the most prevalent worldwide.
It has also been discovered that there are anti-aging benefits to vitamins B5, B6 and B12. The field of anti-aging skin care products is vast and needs a great deal more research. Although current regimes are quite effective, there are many ways to combat the effects of time; however, research is moving forward rapidly and it is only a matter of time before a new generation of products becomes available.
The amount of research going on in this field will undoubtedly bring results in time, hopefully bringing down the cost of these anti-aging skin care products in addition to increasing their reliability. Scientific research into anti-aging products is still in the early stages but they should never be relied upon; we must not forget however, that there are many more natural methods we can all use to reduce the signs of aging on a regular basis. You know all these things but how many do you practice? Regular exercise, restful sleep, drinking plenty of water, eating a healthy diet and keeping your stress levels low are all necessary.
