Playing golf gets more interesting when your putting abilities are amongst the best. Though it seems unbelievable you can improve your skills just by practicing and improving some areas of your playing. All you need to do is to keep on practicing the newly-acquired skills until you are completely confident of putting them to use. Mastering the art of putting is critical if you wish to improve your long shots.

Which skill is needed to be practiced to improve the game alters from one player to the other, but it is important to remember that without practice, you can not make any improvement. To play the best game of golf, you need to focus mainly on three aspects of the game. So that you could hit the ball exactly in the middle of the club head, you need to focus on your swing techniques. This is the first skill you ought to improve on. To master putting, you have to ensure that you hit right in the center. If the ball gets in contact by the side of the club head, it is impossible for it to move straight. It does not matter how many hours of practice you put in your game, you simply can not achieve your desired results by doing this. All you get is loads of frustration at seeing things going wrong.

Once you are confident of hitting the ball by the center of the club head, you need to ensure that you hit the ball absolutely in a straight line aiming at the target. When you are aiming towards a lake which stands 2 feet from you, you are not going to aim at the tree next to it. It may sound incredible, but it is true that not many people can hit the desired target directly during the game. How did they miss the shot, is the next question which crops up in their minds. Missing the target by a hair's breath can adversely affect your putting ability as the ball would go anywhere but where you wanted it to go.

While many players tend to overlook the fact when they overshoot or miss their targets even by a fraction, you need to concentrate on this specific area and practice more. The slightest deviation from the target results in a missed shot and of course an increase in your handicap.

Improve on this area by putting in more hours of practice. Now you can practice at home or office if you use a small home putting kit. Going to the driving range is not going to be of any help. Especially when you are trying to improve this particular skill. Thus you need to avoid this if possible.

The second skill you need to master while trying to improve your putting skills is to learn the art of how to pump in more power to your club head as it comes close to the ball. Many players tend to slow down the club before hitting the ball and this is a grave mistake. This usually causes a fall in momentum which disables the ball to hit the target. With a bit of will power and effort, you could easily learn how not to reduce the speed of your club before it hits the ball. This skill is more than adequate to improve your putting skills.
