There is nothing as good as getting some vital tips before you start with your own garden. Here are some of them, they have worked very well for me. Gardening tips are easily available through the internet, gardening clubs, books, magazines and the local nursery. You need to know how much sunlight your garden would get, tips on using fertilizers, mulch and type of soil. The kind of tiller and the watering system that are required along with the types of tools needed are things which you would be interested to know.

Tip #1: To save time, start writing down your gardening plan. Keep the plan in front and call a friend to discuss the whole matter. A second opinion helps. Make sure to take into consideration the views to the place, how far the hose is from it, if there and any sprinklers around, and anything else you can think of.

Gardening Tip #2: How well you prepare your soil can be a deciding factor whether your garden would be a success or not. One of the important points of consideration is that all plants may not grow well in the same kind of soil. Their needs vary. Use organic fertilizers if you wish to retain the natural aroma of the food when you are growing vegetables and herbs. Instead of using ordinary fertilizer, try using any good compost or even wooden chip mulch.

Are you of the opinion that a backyard compost heap is impossible? Watch out – as it might be truly valuable when it gives you the much-needed returns. Fresh home brew compost is filled with essential nutrients for our herb and vegetable garden, but after all it may not be a very realistic idea. Though mulch is a good substitute to home compost, you have to be sure that they are either pine or redwood, as it breaks faster since they are softer woods. Irrespective of what you use, mulch, compost or fertilizer, these must be mixed well to get good results.

Gardening Tip #3: to have a final look at what your garden would look like, lay the plants on top of the soil, once it is prepared. This can make you last minute changes. According to some guides, plants with like characteristics should be planted together. For instance, plants with larger radii should be clubbed together. Plant the taller plants at the back with shorter ones just in front. This enables you to have a total view.

Gardening Tip #4: Never forget to water your garden. For a big house, keeping your garden in ship shape is a tough task. I recommend using an automatic watering system, as then the garden can grow on its own. These auto systems can be anything from big sprinkler systems to a timer on a hose sprinkler. Gardening can be an engaging and rewarding pastime which gives you pleasure, beauty and of course, food also!
